REALITY CHECK

TEXT: PSALM 139:23-24; PSALM 139 various

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (139:23-24)

Thesis: In order to get to the next level one must have an accurate reading on where he or she is.  It’s all about healthy self-awareness.

I want to give you four pictures in the process of identifying self awareness.

✖ SELF AWARENESS BEGINS WHEN I ASK GOD TO “___________ ME”

Search me, O God, and know my heart

(VERSE 1) “O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.”

The Hebrew word for "searched" is the word, "to dig."

Literally what David is saying is, "O Lord, you dig me!"

(VERSE 2) You know “dig” when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

Lord, you know me in my conscious and my _____________________ life.

(VERSE 3) You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

You know the way I choose to go, and you know the habits of my life.

(VERSE 4) Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.

That is, "You understand my language.

If I am going to arrive at self awareness I must ask God to restore me - “and lead me in the way everlasting.” (139:24)
